Want to look like a Victoria’s Secret Angel? Adriana Lima shares her intense diet leading up to the annual show | Hollywood yohana

The question of what or even whether models eat is nothing new and when asked, models usually give the standard answer, “anything I want,” and are sure to mention pizza or burgers. So it’s (kind of) refreshing that Victoria’s Secret Angel Adriana Lima has been so blunt when talking about her diet leading up to the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airing on November 29.
Millions watch the angels walk the coveted runway wearing barely there lingerie, so it’s not surprising that Lima has been working with a trainer since August (she’s since increased her workouts to twice a day). During her training a nutritionist also prescribes the right protein shakes, vitamins, and supplements to keep her energy up and Lima will drink a gallon of water a day. Nine days before the show, Lima will only drink protein shakes that include powdered eggs (yum). Two days before the show she’ll drink “normally” instead of a gallon of water and, finally, 12 hours before the show she’ll stop drinking all together.
The intense diet matches the over-the-top show that Victoria’s Secret puts on every year. While all of the angels look amazing, we’re not sure we’re ready to give up solid food for powdered eggs.

THEY SAID…
Sophia Neophitou, Victoria’s Secret fashion show stylist: “Adriana works really hard at it. It’s the same as if you were a long-distance runner. They are athletes in this environment — it’s harder to be a Victoria’s Secret model because no one can just chuck an outfit on you, and hide your lumps and bumps.”
Huffington Post: “So no solids and no liquids… it’s a wonder Lima and her winged gal pals don’t just pass out right on the runway! Then again, it might be best that the Victoria’s Secret models are a bit light-headed — that way, they’re less likely to notice how ridiculous their outfits are.” [
The Cut: “So don’t worry about why you don’t look like them, or how you can. You probably didn’t beat yourself up for not winning the New York City Marathon yesterday, after all.”
WE SAID…
Sarah Casselman, fashion editor: “This sounds extreme, though some of the looks in the VS show are as well! Frankly, I find it refreshing to hear a model speak so openly about the hard work that goes into prepping for a huge show like this. Clearly, angels do earn their wings. (How many of us mere mortals are slightly relieved to hear this?)”

Calvin Klein’s on-again/off-again boyfriend was arrested for assault and cocaine possession. Oh the scandal! | Hollywood yohana

We’re betting Calvin Klein has got his legendary knickers in a knot. On-again/off-again boyfriend Nick Gruber’s facing serious legal woes: the 22-year-old was arrested Tuesday for resisting arrest, misdemeanor assault against pal Calvin Swift and possession of cocaine.
Gruber (for unknown reasons) decided to brawl with his friend Swift at his West Village penthouse around 4:20 a.m. When cops arrived at the scene, he thrashed his arms to avoid being cuffed, shoving his hands down his pants in an attempt to conceal cocaine in his (CK?) underwear.
Gruber, a former erotic model, planned to move West to pursue… well… a somewhat more clothed career in reality TV (according to the New York Daily News he was auditioning for Big Brother earlier this month, but didn’t receive a callback). But looks like the only reality show he may be scoring is Celebrity Rehab.
Swift declined to press charges against his buddy and said Gruber is “lost” in the melodrama that is his relationship to the much-older and much-wealthier Klein.  Nursing a bruised eye and a bruised ego Swift mockingly added, “Nick’s got plans, you know, I have dreams, too. I want to be the mayor of New Jersey when I grow up.”
Hmm, we wonder what Gruber’s famous (former?) beau thinks of all this. Perhaps as punishment, Gruber will have to wave au revoir to his swanky apartment that Klein bought for him.

THEY SAID:

Huffington Post: We wonder if Nick Gruber has his boyfriend on speed dial for situations like this.”

Coco Perez: “Still no word from Uncle Calvin on this whole mess, but we have a feeling Gruber will be getting a stern talking to since Klein paid for his apartment!”

WE SAID:
Paige Dzenis, associate online editor: “Well, if we’ve learned anything from the grand tradition of the American Dream, it’s that those who live at the bottom of the barrel will always be the ones to end up on six seasons of a terrible reality TV game show.”

Marc Jacobs’ entire Spring 2012 collection stolen! Let’s hope Winona’s not to blame… | Hollywood yohana

Earlier today, on a train from Paris to London, Marc Jacobs‘ entire set of Spring 2012 samples was reportedly nabbed! Dun dun dun. An email sent out to UK press read “The Marc Jacobs PR team is sorry to inform you that our press day tomorrow in the Marc Jacobs store is cancelled, due to the theft of the spring/summer 2012 collections during its transfer from Paris.” All 46 looks? We can’t imagine who would be able to quietly and successfully extract that many racks/trunks/garment bags of frothy and, mind you, crinkly items, but then again, maybe we don’t know many professional thieves to weigh in on the matter. What will Sofia Coppola wear to the Oscars? Maybe Jacobs shouldn’t have saved Winona after all!

Marilyn Monroes iconic white dress from The Seven Year Itch has sold at auction for a whopping $5.6 million.

Things are about to get x-rated at Thierry Mugler. Designer Nicola Formichetti will be uploading the upcoming menswear show on a porn site.
Horyn vs. Gaga: why the fashion writer has unfollowed the pop sensation on twitter.

Jean Paul Gaultier used to think Madonna was British (and its not because of her accent). The designer talks with Opening Ceremony following the opening of his retrospective in Montreal. [

Inside Calgary’s ARTwear fundraiser: A Parisian-themed runway and stylish doyennes sipping bubbly | Hollywood yohana

Amidst a flowing wine and champagne bar, the Calgary crowd kicked off the long weekend earlier this month with a fusion of art and fashion at the ninth annual ARTwear fundraiser fashion show.
If only we’d attended three weeks ago, we’d have learned how to fasten our own massive twig hats and carpet-foam dresses in time for Halloween. The VIP portion of the evening included a showcase at the Art Gallery of Calgary (AGC), where the Alberta College of Art + Design students presented creations from their Wearable Art atelier. The use of unconventional materials turned models into performance art pieces, as they mingled post-show with media, designers, and well-dressed guests paying for the cause (proceeds from the event go to the AGC’s Public and Education Programming for grades K-12).

Around 7:30, a VIP shuttle whisked us over to Hotel Arts, where a heaving, hyped-up crowd of 600 people were gathering to watch boutique retailers walk the runway, themed Paris Glam (throw in an Eiffel Tower as backdrop and you’re good to go). Prepping you for the holiday season were masses of sequins from APT 22, barely-there lingerie from SHE Apparel and a look forward to exclusive Spring 2012 pieces from design house Zenobia.
Our favourite piece of art was the blown-up cover of FASHION’s Winter issue, but maybe we’re just biased.

Nicola Formichetti, Anna Dello Russo, Karolina Kurkova, and more at Fashion’s Night Out! | Hollywood yohana

Replace candy for clothes, and Fashion’s Night Out could easily be described as the Halloween of fashion (no, not because it’s scary). For one night only, the streets of New York are jam-packed with merrymakers trying to navigate their way from one party to the next. In and amongst the crowd, our boy Lewis Mirrett was snapping away, capturing all of the festivities in his signature vibrant way! We’re feeling pretty jazzed by the photos, and have added some hilarious (we hope!) captions to add to the fun. Enjoy!

Day 1 in Paris brings a visit to Colette, and more pearls from the Hussein Chalayan exhibit | Hollywood yohana

A rare break on the Paris fashion week calendar means an editor does one or two things:
1. Visit Colette. (Check!) Among the countless chic finds, the Jeremy Scott x Swatch collab watches make telling time—at least when your iPhone dies—a very colourful experience.
2. Visit a museum. I zipped over to Les Arts Décoratifs to zoom through Hussein Chalayan’s Fashion Narratives. Known for his highly inventive designs that fuse fashion, architecture, and technology together, this exhibit highlights Chalayan’s kook-tastic universe using a multi-sensory experience, including voice, body, music, light, and décor that mirrors his ready-to-wear shows.

The “Dont Miss” short list: Airmail Dresses—his first commercial collection in 1994—was based on the folds from a letter; for Blindscape (Spring 2005) the designer blindfolded himself while sketching the collection, to see how a person with vision views the world as someone who doesn’t; and One Hundred and Eleven (Spring 2006) where hand-constructed mechanical dresses morphed (at the touch of a button backstage) into entirely different silhouettes.
Fear Factor: With its haunting soundtrack, life-like mannequins (one actually has eyes and blinks using a projected image onto her face), and garments flapping in the breeze (courtesy of a wind machine, I’m hoping?) this exhibition left me inspired yet kind of wishing I’d brought along a nightlight.

Royal watch day 1, part 3: Kate went casual in an Issa wrap dress last night in Ottawa. Get the look now! | Hollywood yohana

While at a barbeque celebrating young Canadians last night in Ottawa, Kate turned to her favourite label, Issa, for her third dress of the day: a casual black wrap dress with what looks like polka dots but is actually tiny little birds! A hint of Miu Miu Spring 2010, don’t you think? Simple low espadrille slingback wedges were a must for a long night of greeting over a hundred people.

Katy Perry’s got a fragrance and a new gingery ‘do. Read our interview with the purr-fectly charming popstar! | Hollywood yohana

In behind the racks and rows of samples at Sears’ Toronto HQ on Thursday, Canadian press descended on Katy Perry, who was holding court for the launch of her first fragrance, Purr (from $36, exclusively in Canada at the department store) the juicy fragrance is a rich mix of fruity, clean and musky notes. Having played a concert the evening before and set to perform a free show later that afternoon at Yonge-Dundas Square, her look for her meet-and-greet was considerably more toned down than the fantastical costumes she dances around in on stage. Perry donned a demure Dior lilac dress with a matching twinset cardigan, and bow-topped, platform peep-toe Miu Mius. Showing the playful side that’s become her signature, she channeled her fragrance’s cat-shaped bottle with a lacy kitty-ear headband she picked up at Colette in Paris, by milliner Maison Michel, atop a brand new gingery ‘do. Amidst the hullabaloo, we quizzed the singer on the fragrance-making process. She dished on those bygone years of ditching the boyfriend’s place to go home and clean up. The former FASHION cover girl was, what else, purr-fectly charming.

Dressing for the MMVAs: FASHION helps a MuchMusic host prep for her big night out | Hollywood yohana

This Sunday, all eyes will be on the 2011 MuchMusic Video Awards, the channel’s annual celebration of a year in music, videos and, of course, its stars! If the stellar lineup—including Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Avril Lavgine and Vampire DiariesNina Dobrev—is any indication, this year’s show is certain to kill it. While we’ll have to wait until the night of to see what the stars are wearing, we had a little something to do with what host Lauren Toyota will be donning. Toyota stopped by our offices earlier this week to play dress-up, enlisting the help of market editor Jordan Porter and while we’re mum’s the word about her final selection, join us in the closet to check out the session of dress up!

Fashion news: Justin Bieber’s new perfume, Chloë Sevigny premieres on the runway, Princess Beatrice raises money for UNICEF, and Gwen Stefani’s plagiarized dress | Hollywood yohana

Making up the most insanely bizarre fashion trifecta EVER, Dree Hemingway stars in the Terry Richardson-shot ads for Justin Beiber’s new fragrance. Never say never?
Expect a lot more It girls where she came from… Chloë Sevigny x Opening Ceremony Resort 2012 will be the label’s first collection to ever be shown on the runway.
Crabhat’s off to Princess Beatrice who auctioned off her royal wedding hat on eBay and raised $130 767 for the Little Bee Initiative to raise money for UNICEF and Children in Crisis charities.

The L.A.M.B. dress that Gwen Stefani donned at the amfAR Gala wasn’t L.A.M.B. after all, it was Michael Angel. Do pop stars get in trouble for plagiarizing?
Balmain is going to launch a diffusion line named Pierre Balmain after the label’s founder. Let the new wave of Balmania ensue.
Michelle Obama was politically-cautious by wearing British designers Roksanda Ilincic and Preen while visiting England. Talk about making a statement!
Tyra Banks announces that there won’t be any more “normal” cycles of America’s Next Top Model but doesn’t specify what she means. Themed cycles, anyone?
Celebrities including Lady Gaga, Blake Lively and Karl Lagerfeld have designed Uniqlo T-shirts for Relief in Japan. They’ll be available on June 25th, but the designs are already available to see.

Justin! Selena! Carly! Katy! The countdown is on: 3 days to go until the 2012 MMVAs | Hollywood yohana

With just three days left until the MuchMusic Video Awards, the Canadian music network dropped a bombshell today: fan favourite Selena Gomez—who was the MMVA host last year—will be returning to this year’s awards show as a presenter.
Of course, considering that her boyfriend Justin Bieber is the headlining performer, it makes sense that Gomez came along for the trip to his home province. (And our fingers are crossed for some on-camera PDAs to make up for last year’s almost-kiss awkwardness.) Gomez, who’s passing on her hosting duties to party rockers LMFAO on Sunday, will be joining a star-packed roster of presenters including Kelly Osbourne, Lights, Dragonette and more.
Aside from the Bieber fever, other big-ticket performers include Canadian singers Carly Rae Jepsen and Nelly Furtado, plus Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson and Flo Rida. The action kicks off at 8 p.m. this Sunday with the MMVA Red Carpet Special, followed by a live broadcast of the show at 9 p.m.—and, as usual fans are encouraged to join the party by crowding onto Toronto’s streets at Queen and John.
