The Olympics are impressive for a variety of all reasons, but most of all for being the one event to turn even the most athletically disinclined into feverish sporting enthusiasts. So once you’re done wrapping yourself up in Team Canada gear get your nails into the game with an Olympic-themed manicure.

Olympic beauty secrets: Healthy hair tips from Clara Hughes’ Calgary-based stylist | Hollywood yohana

Canadian fan favourite Clara Hughes used grit to secure six Olympic medals (in speed skating and cycling) throughout her career, but what about her auburn hair? Why, that came directly from her grandmother. While Hughes swears by Kérastase hair products (“I have great hair but without good products, my hair is not so great!”), she’s not above flying Calgary stylist Brianna Hallet of SwizzleSticks Salon out to do an emergency touch-up for a speaking engagement in, say, Vancouver. Devotion indeed. We asked Hallet what it takes to do Olympic-style hair.
What do you do to keep Clara Hughes’ hair looking its best?
I introduced [Clara’s] hair to a gloss treatment many years ago and it has been highly beneficial for her. Clara’s hair type is very thick and a little bit coarse. What the gloss achieves is the smoothing of the cuticles, so that they all face the same direction. Also, it brings out the natural colour and what you end up with is beautiful, shiny, healthy hair. And because it is essentially a “colourless colour” the effects last a long time. Every hair type can benefit from gloss. All women lust after the shiny, glossy, freshly coloured look, and the easiest way to achieve that is gloss.
Any other pearls of healthy hair wisdom?
Get trims often, and shield the hair from heat styling with protecting products. And do not overwash hair—water is enemy number one to hair, as it depletes the hair’s moisture, and there are great dry shampoos out there now to save us from shampooing.

Do you like Julianne Moore’s McQueen tux dress? | Hollywood yohana

Julianne Moore attended the Bulgari Express Save the Children party last night and wore a black silk and lace Alexander McQueen dress. While we loved this tuxedo, there seems to be something lost in translation here. What do you think of this two-for-one look? Cast your vote after the jump.

Stella McCartney lends face to PETA for anti-leather campaign | Hollywood yohana

Stella McCartney is lending her famous face to PETA to launch an anti-leather campaign. Known for refusing to use fur and leather in her clothing line, the designer has always been passionate about animal advocacy, which is why it’s no surprise that she is now speaking out alongside the organization in a new video.
In the clip, McCartney says, “As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don’t bleed; that’s why I avoid all animal skins.” We had a difficult time watching the entire video, but we sure think its more effective than blood and paint tossing outside of fashion week.

Is it just a coincidence that Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively released separate yet very similar perfume ads this week? | Hollywood yohana

Maybe it’s all the Olympic fever in the air, or maybe it’s just all the perfume spritzing that’s made us dizzy, but we’re having a hard time distinguishing between the latest perfume ads for Blonde A (Blake Lively for Gucci Première) and Blonde B (Gwyneth Paltrow for Hugo Buss Nuit).
Both leggy blondes stalk through sleek interiors set against a sparkling city landscape at night, both do a lot of closed-eye spritzing and both are sporting almost identical retro-inspired waves. Oh, and the music…it’s pretty much the same.
While neither ad is a big departure for the starlets, who both flaunt their stunning figures in body-conscious dresses (gold for Lively, black for Paltrow), neither campaign disappoints either. If buying a fragrance is buying into an idea, then the notion of minimalist luxury and impeccably coiffed flaxen hair isn’t a bad one.

Toronto shop notes: Alpine escapade | Hollywood yohana

Mac & Jac

Judging from the selection of chunky cable knits, Fair Isle patterns, and fisherman sweaters spotted this fall, designers like Sonia Rykiel and Jil Sander’s Raf Simons are ready for an alpine escapade. Channel the cabin-fever craze with a Nordic knit, like this one by Mac & Jac ($80, at Sears), paired with stovepipe trousers and chunky boots.

Spring sunnies | Hollywood yohana

Worship Me sunglasses

No matter what the forecast says, I’d like to believe that the sun’s hiding just around the corner. And if not—well, I can always take a little spring-break vacation, non? Either way, I feel justified splurging on a pair of Linda Farrow for Agent Provocateur sunglasses (from $375).

The collection includes styles with suitably provocative names like Desire Me and Spank Me—and that’s not all. As well as the rhinestone-trimmed cats-eye Worship Me (shown, $425), and a wacky pair with major studs at the temples, there are more versatile shapes in black, with sleek gold hardware.
