New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Why J.Crew can do no wrong, plus our top 5 picks from yesterday’s shows | Hollywood yohana

Tory Burch Spring 2013

It was a whirlwind day of running between shows and showrooms, but I’ve managed to suss out five of the best offerings of the day, beginning with the most unexpected one from Oscar de la Renta. From a man known for glamorous gowns and ladylike day-wear, it was a surprise to see Karlie Kloss open the show in a latex top and skin-tight pencil skirt. Clearly courting a younger contingent, uncharacteristically punky coloured streaks were added to wispy beehives and billowy shorts suits were on offer for evening. Is Oscar abandoning his core clientele? I seriously doubt it, but it’s always refreshing to see a designer throw us a curveball and stretch his style beyond the expected.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: We spot Kirsten Dunst, Zosia Mamet,Tavi Gevinson and…the Jonas Brothers | Hollywood yohana

Zosia Mamet at New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Intro

From the city that never sleeps, it also seems that the fashion crowd never sleeps during fashion week, as photographer Stefania Yarhi has caught even more stylish ladies (and a few men!) outside the shows at New York Fashion Week Spring 2013.
The excitement was in the air as Hollywood’s elite sat in the coveted front row of Rodarte’s Spring 2013 show on Tuesday. Plunked beside Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour in the front row was Kirsten Dunst (fresh from her visit to Toronto for TIFF to promote her upcoming film On the Road), who Yahri captured leaving the show wearing an on-trend cream and brown striped dress with lace and ruffles from Rodarte’s Fall 2012 collection.

Fashion Week regulars such as Anna Wintour, and Tavi Gevinson (who has much to celebrate with the recent release of Rookie Yearbook One and her appearance on Late Night wih Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday) were seen outside shows from Marc by Marc Jacobs, Oscar De La Renta, Tory Burch and Narciso Rodriguez.
The Man Repeller herself, Leandra Medine wore the best t-shirt we’ve seen thus far at fashion week, emblazoned with the caption “All blogs post the same stuff”. Yarhi also found one of our favorites, Girls actress Zosia Mamet (who’s co-star recently graced our cover) who was wearing a great red leather moto cross jacket, that we will definitely be coveting in a so-not-Shoshanna way this fall.
Two-thirds of the Jonas Brothers (Nick and Joe) were also out on the streets. We aren’t quite sure why they are here for New York Fashion Week, but we may or may not have squealed a bit at the sight of them.
We also couldn’t help but notice a few trends popping up on the streets of New York during Fashion Week. As we mentioned before, the Balenciaga sci-fi sweater seems to be a definite favorite of the fashion crowd. We’ve also noticed a fair amount of 3.1 Phillip Lim’s Zap Pow Bang collection as well this fall’s jacket trend, the red leather moto cross (as seen on Zosia).

New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: We spot Tyra Banks, Jessica Alba, Bart Simpson (prints) and Bill Cunningham petting adorable bulldogs! | Hollywood yohana

Cara Delevigne New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style

The street style in and around the last two days of New York Fashion Week’s Spring 2013 shows were a frenzy of varsity jackets (Opening Ceremony), motorcycle jackets (Acne) see-through bags (from Kenzo to Claire’s) and Asian-inspired printed silks (Proenza Schouler, obv) jealousy-inducing heels (and even a few flats) as shot by our street style photographer Stefania Yarhi. Amidst the madness, Bill Cunningham was playing with some adorable bulldogs. You better bet we caught that too.

The ever-fierce Tyra Banks was seen on the streets of New York wearing a black sequined top with silver finishes and metallic clutch. A grey knuckle ring provides some edge into the sparkling outfit. Paris Hilton was also spotted on the busy streets in a multi-coloured dress, which we’d almost ID as a Proenza-meets-Stella, as well as a black and gold chain clutch, gold watch and sunglasses. Jessica Alba showcases the It look of the week: a chic leather motorcycle jacket with a bright yellow plaid skirt, slicked back hair and sunglasses.
Bart Simpson made a double appearance: first on Cara Delevigne, who wore a Bart-ified Jeremy Scott sweater-and-skirt combo, and second, on an unidentified bloke, whose epic Bartman sweater was seriously drool-inducing. Elsewhere, a droopy comic print was spotted on Canadian electro It girl Grimes.

London Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style: We spy Taylor Tomasi Hill, Anna Dello Russo, Prada prints and embellished tops on the streets of London | Hollywood yohana

Taylor Tomasi Hill London Fashion Week Spring 2013 Street Style

London Fashion Week is already underway and our street style photographer Stefania Yarhi has left New York City just in time to catch up on all the Spring 2013 goings-on across the pond. Meaning: get ready for some pretty stunning street style shots from the streets of London! Right from the pages of our Fall & Winter 2012 trend guide, embellishments were everywhere—from sparkling add-ons to elaborately woven prints, you’ll see an array of colourful designs that brought life and vibrance into the bustling streets.
Speaking of vibrance, Taylor Tomasi Hill was spotted behind the camera, taking photos in a feminine floral-print dress from the Erdem Fall 2012 collection. (Our only disappointment? That she didn’t do that Erdem dress at Erdem’s Spring 2013 showing today.) Her bright red hair in a low bun provided extra class to the overall look. Also noticed on the streets of London: many a Prada print, including the Fall 2012 geometric applique design that we DIYed a few weeks back. Finally, London Fashion Week wouldn’t be the same without beautiful hats, and Anna Dello Russo delivered in a playful purple hat that complemented her royal-blue and black ensemble. We’ll keep you posted with more great looks from the streets of London throughout the week!

London Fashion Week Spring 2013: The weekend recap from Temperley London, Burberry Prorsum, Christoper Kane, Preen and more | Hollywood yohana

Spring 2012 Burberry Prorsum London Fashion Week

Whether you were following the shows at London Fashion Week all weekend long or are just catching up now, Spring 2013 is shaping up to include everything we could hope for after a long winter. Here’s just a handful of the trends and items that have stood out from the shows so far:
Sass and Bride showcased numerous stunning dresses in classic black and white. The bright neon orange pants along with a white blouse and short long sleeved jacket was the best look by far—especially with laced up booties to finish it off. Casting man Russell Marsh exclaimed he wanted the girls to look ‘fresh’ and that they did with minimal make-up and pulled by hair.
Vivid metallics were the highlight of the Burberry Prorsum show. Trench coats—a signature look for the designer—were played up with beautiful hues of magenta, purples and bright blues. The models walked the runway looking ready to take on the world, with matching handbags and bold ankle strap heels.

A favourite of both Pippa and Kate, Temperley London’s Fall 2012 collection was seen on Kate Middleton just last week—so we awaited the new collection with great anticipation. The designs were filled with bold reds and blues and many an oversized stripe. Although majority of the pieces were too sheer and revealing for the Duchess of Cambridge we found one look we think would get her stamp of approval. This white dress has a slight conservative appeal along with a slight slit and sheer sleeves with embroidered detailing—which Kate Middleton usually opts for.
Christopher Kane chose to tone it down and his Spring 2013 collection focused on pastels. The soft hues looked beautiful on the models. There was also a mixture of clean whites that already made us long for the days when we edge out of the hibernation of dark winter shades.

At Preen the collection was all about snazzy snakeskin. Although floral prints were also seen it was the snakeskin details on majority of the pieces that really stood out. This look in particular is an impressive mesh of textures that look spectacular together. The top features stripes, white cuffs and snakeskin whereas the skirt is beaded with sheer edges—when paired with strappy heels and natural hair and makeup it really comes together.
