25 photos of cool kids being ultra festive in all black

for Christmas at Wrongbar on Queen Street West. With DJ tunes from Toronto allstars like Brendan Canning, Frank Griggs and Members Only (plus one relative newbie a.k.a. me), the crowd grooved as hard as one might imagine a bunch of west enders to do on a cold winter’s night. Guests including Clint Roenisch, Chanel Croker, Kealan Anne Sullivan, Jeremy Laing, Paria Shirvani and Misshapes DJ Geordon Nicol kept the party going till way past midnight. And while the mood may have been festive, attendees clung to their black on black on black staples cause what says happy holidays more than a biker jacket and a beard? That was a trick question.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge walk hand in hand to church on Christmas

The biggest royal contingent in years set upon the Queen’s Sandrigham estate to celebrate Christmas yesterday and despite last week’s reports that those further down in the pecking order would have to sleep in servants rooms (the horror!), it looks like yesterday’s festivities went off without a hitch. Spirits were high, especially for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge who walked to St. Mary Magdalene church hand in hand and greeted well-wishers on the way. Many asked after Prince George, though unsurprisingly, he did not make an appearance. Prince Harry did make an appearance, sporting his fresh from the South Pole beard alongside Will and Kate.

Kate’s outfit was a repeat of one of her most popular pieces, a McQ by Alexander McQueen tartan coat, and a new hat by Gina Foster. The coat first made an appearance back in November 2012, when a just-pregnant duchess played hockey at her former prep school, Saint Andrew’s. Kate wore her Aquatalia Rhumba boots and Kiki McDonough green amethyst drop earrings.

Earlier in the day, the Duchess of Cambridge wore another repeated piece, a cream-hued coat by UFO she first wore back in March to a wedding in Switzerland. Overtop, she wore another tartan, this time a red cashmere wrap by Really Wild Clothing.

The 9 best cinematic style moments of 2013

While red carpet celebrities continue to be the ambassadors of choice for luxury brands, big studio film-making was bound to get a little haute with their marketing tie-ins this year, resulting in some of the best on-screen fashion moments we’ve seen in ages. Prada got behind The Great Gatsby and Alexander McQueen dressed Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Meanwhile, Blue Jasmine’s many alcohol-fueled meltdowns were accessorized in everything from Hermès to Louis Vuitton.

Here, we take a look back at the year in cinematic fashion and count down the 9 best fashion on film moments of 2013. There were plenty to choose from

Who wore pink best

After a season chock-full of bubblegum runways, the pink trend seems to be holding. With spring in the distant future, bright young things Lea Seydoux and Allison Williams showed how to transition the soft shade into warmer weather, while keeping it age appropriate and stylish.

In London for the announcement of BAFTA’s 2014 Rising Star award, Seydoux wore a mix of designs by Miuccia Prada. The outfit featured a Miu Miu fit-and-flare long-sleeved dress with a minimalist floral print and a sugary pink bejeweled overcoat by Prada. As the current face of Miu Miu, alongside Blue Is The Warmest Colour co-star Adèle Exarchopoulos, she can be expected to don her fair share of modern designs from the quirky Italian designer over the upcoming awards season.

On this side of the pond, Girls star Allison Williams showcased the hue as a sleeveless tweed number with a full skirt, while promoting the upcoming season on The Today Show this morning. In true Marnie fashion, Williams paired the dress with classic nude patent heels, but her strong brow and blunt hair cut, softened with loose waves, steered her clear of Stepford wife territory.

Who wore it best at the Girls Season Three premiere partys

Last night’s New York premiere of Girls Season Three was like something out of my fantasies. Natasha Lyonne, Steve Buscemi, Gaby Hoffman and Anna Wintour (in a Spring 2014 Prada fur) all at one party. Holy wow. Given how much “the ladies” (a.k.a. me) adore the show, its pretty fitting that I’d be seething with jealousy at this motley crew. So, like… can I at least pick apart their outfits? Just kidding, I have nothing bad to say.

Co-stars Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet pulled the colour co-ordination card, all favouring shimmering metallic, a forthcoming Spring 2014 trend, in their looks for the night

The top 5 places to up the ante on a traditional afternoon fix

Going to London and not stopping for tea is practically criminal. Even though tea jargon is somewhat complicated (afternoon tea does not equal high tea!) and the rituals are sometimes confusing (tea into milk or milk into tea?), it’s become our favourite meal of the day when across the pond. There really is no better way to break up a busy schedule of shopping and London sightseeing than with a few tea sandwiches and some jasmine pearls. Here are some of our favourite picks.

The top 7 trendy spots to stay while in town

Since the answer to “is Buckingham Palace available?” is most likely no, we set out to select 7 of the next best spots to lay your head while in London. Granted, you may not have a Downton style staff of twenty at your beck and call, but hey, you might just have your own personal butler. From the ultra trendy to the hella plush, peruse our list of the best London hotel

Our 8 favourite stores to hit for designer, vintage, knick-knacks and beyond

It’s safe to say that this fashion capital has good shopping on lock. From High Street to Shoreditch, London bursts with wallet-tempting options. It’s also home to some of the world’s best department stores, including names as posh as Harrod’s, Harvey Nichols and Selfridge’s. To help you wade through the vast options, we’ve narrowed it down to our 8 favourite stores to hit while in Londontown. By no means are these all there is, they’re just pretty damn great.

Our top 10 picks from the red carpet

Awards season is upon us, so you better get ready for an hit of jealously-inducing glamour and perhaps a cringe-worthy outfit or two.

Things kicked off last night in Los Angeles with the People’s Choice Awards 2014. The red carpet was slim with A-List celebrities and some of those who did turn up had questionable choices (Heidi Klum we’re looking at you) If anything, last night gave us hope that winter will soon be over, and we too, shall be able to sport bare legs and strapless dresses. Fingers crossed.

Sandra Bullock, who cleaned up huge taking home five awards, seemed to be over this whole polar vortex thing and donned a bright floral number with her covetable sleek hair. Both Allison Williams and Kaley Cuoco shone in cobalt blue, while Jessica Alba stuck to a white strapless dress with grommets down the side for added edge. Naya Rivera accessorized her dress with a new blonde do, and we have to admit she rocked it. To everyone’s delight, and frankly, surprise, Britney Spears seems back on top in a stunning sparkly mini by Canada’s own, Mikael D. We just hope she continues down this very fashionable road to redemption, we haven’t forgotten that denim disaster.

Our picks for the red carpet’s 26 best dressed

The A-list came out swinging on the Golden Globes 2014 red carpet, with everyone from Meryl to Leo making an appearance. As the unofficial precursor to the Oscars, the Globes was home to some season-setting style statements. Most strikingly, rising 12 Years a Slave star Lupita Nyong’o had her career-making moment in a breathtaking red cape Ralph Lauren dress a la Gwyneth in 2012. Also in red, Amy Adams channeled her award winning American Hustle role in a cleavage-baring Valentino gown. Emma Watson wore red most adventurously as a Dior dress overtop cigarette pants, proving there are still creative ways to do red carpet.

Baby bumps were everywhere at Golden Globes 2014, with Hollywood’s latest pregnancy wave hitting the red carpet in a big way (no pun intended). Kerry Washington made a sleek statement in grey Balenciaga, while Olivia Wilde went head-to-toe glitter in green Gucci and Drew Barrymore wore a pretty Monique Lhuillier dress.

Dior devout Jennifer Lawrence split the critics, receiving part love part hate for her strapless white gown with black straps.

Inside her red carpet and after party looks

Whether she’s chopping her locks or wearing Brit-designed mix prints, Emma Watson has become one of our favourite Hollywood risk takers. Her style evolution from awkward teen to slick ingénue was never more present than at last night’s Golden Globe awards, where she wowed the crowd with a Christian Dior dress-over-skirt combo on the red carpet. From the front, Watson’s dress appeared demure—a short-sleeved dress with a high slit. From the back, it revealed cropped cigarette trousers, which she paired with Dior earrings and violet cross-strapped Roger Vivier pumps.

After the Globes, Watson hit the red carpet once again for the Instyle/Warner Bros after party wearing a black Theory dress that featured a sheer overlay with metallic embellishments. While the dress of choice was less of a fashion risk than her award show look, she executed the look as perfectly with a matching embroidered Edie Parker clutch and black Christian Louboutin pumps.

The singer’s mini/maxi red carpet looks

Taylor Swift joined the Hollywood elite this past weekend, gracing the red carpet at Golden Globes 2014.

The country popstar was nominated in the Best Original Song category “Sweeter Than Fiction,” and although she left empty handed, she looked double the winner in two beautiful red carpet looks.

Pre-awards, Swift arrived in a strapless raspberry Carolina Herrera gown that featured a photobomb-worthy train. The Covergirl spokeswoman kept her makeup to a minimal opting for her trademark red lip and topping her look off with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.

Later on in the evening, Swift went full on vamp for the Instyle/Warner Bros. Golden Globes after party, changing into a sheer crochet body-con dress by Julien MacDonald and black Jimmy Choo sandals. Certainly more risqué than her past red carpet looks, Swift did the tight mini proud.
