Vancouver: 5 minutes with John Hardy creative director Guy Bedarida | Hollywood yohana

Canadian designer John Hardy (johnhardy.) founded his eponymous jewellery brand in 1989 after moving to Bali and falling in love with traditional Indonesian art. Today, Guy Bedarida is the company’s creative director—he’s previously designed for Boucheron and Van Cleef & Arpels. We sat down at Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew (737 Dunsmuir St., 604-681-3121, holtrenfrew.com).
Who is the John Hardy customer?
“She’s someone who likes sustainable luxury; fashion that respects people and the environment. She wants to enjoy beautiful things.”
Someone like Angela Lindvall, who stars in the company’s ad campaign?
“She’s a real woman. She’s 32, she has two beautiful kids, she’s very green. We became very good friends and even designed jewellery together—the Hijau collection is a collaboration with Angela.”
What else inspired you when you were designing your spring collection?
“Nature, definitely, especially since we had an interesting season. It rained a lot in Bali this year!”
Do you design any other collections?
“Cinta means ‘love’ in Balinese, and the Cinta collection was designed especially for the wife of Mr. Hardy—a different piece for each occasion. The entire collection is made with diamonds, rubies or very rare jade. This is really the haute couture collection of John Hardy.”

Kate Middleton is back in her Olympic uniform for the Paralympics (Plus, our first ever animated gif!) | Hollywood yohana

Will and Kate celebrate the Paralympics with an Animated GIF

Pictures from today’s Paralympic events brought back all the Olympic joy we’ve been missing these past few weeks—joy which includes the return of Prince William and Kate Middleton having the time of their royal lives. Our excitement over their lovey-dovey cheering of athletes was so great that it inspired the creation of FASHION’s first animated gif. (We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!) Now, onto the important topic of what Kate’s wearing: as predicted, the duchess is back in her sporty Team GB ensemble. Today’s variation on the look includes a red Team GB polo, navy fleece sweater and red Adidas Supernova Glide 4 sneakers, of which William wore a matching pair. There are still ten days of Paralympics events to go, meaning even more matching outfits in the days to come!

Designer DIY: Recreating Balenciaga’s covetable sci-fi sweater at a fraction of the price | Hollywood yohana

DIY Balenciaga Fall 2012 Sci Fi Sweater

No one does high-end sci-fi mash-ups better than Nicolas Ghesquière and Balenciaga Fall 2012’s outsized Star Wars meets Elizabethan England printed sweaters are just the latest indication. Otherworldly yet utterly wearable, we took the challenge of DIYing the look. To boot, we came in under $100 (ahem, the original is almost $4,000!)
