Our favourite street style shots from Montreal’s Fashion & Design Festival last week | Hollywood yohana

Osheaga wasn’t the only game in town last week in Montreal, with the city being invaded by not one but two stylish festivals. Festival Mode & Design transformed the downtown core into one big fashion show, with runways and installations being erected across town. Style Panelist and street style photographer Élodie Parthenay was there to snap some of the best styles on the street.

True Blood Recap: We flashback to Alcide’s teen years and see dragon robes worn in a so very un-Proenza Schouler way | Hollywood yohana

The last time we rode the TB rollercoaster, Hoyt joined the redneck supe killer troop then quit it to save Jessica, then get Hoytnapped. Both Sookie and Lafayette tapped into spirits for some truth from the other side (for Sookie, to find out a vamp named Warlow killed her folks, while for LaLa, to be told by the Ifrit lady that Pat and Terry had to kill one or the other to settle their debt). Luna turned into Sam and there was talk of her dying. And Bill had the MVV (most valuable vampire) idea of blowing up the TruBlood factories to force mainstreaming vamps back to the vein. For last night’s ups and downs, lets get the little ones out of the way first…
Loaded Guns
-Terry gives Arlene a dramatic (albeit brief) speech and kisses her goodbye to go fight Patrick in a may the best man win battle.
-Arlene is wearing a beautiful satiny hooded sweatshirt to open Merlotte’s, when Patrick holds her hostage at gunpoint (not for crimes of fashion, surprisingly).
-Terry comes to save his lady, but Arlene ends up saving him. Terry shoots Patrick and the Ifrit takes Patrick’s body, so they don’t even have to bother burying him! The mob needs an Ifrit “cleaner.”
-On a road trip we get “Alcide The Teen Years”: Alcide’s dad looks like Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots, Young Debbie Pelt looks like Topanga from Boy Meets World and Young Alcide looks like the We Need To Talk About Kevin Kevin.
-Alcide shows up at his gambling pappy’s trailer to drink a beer and Alcide is like “I’m nothing like you!” because obviously there’s some daddy issues for us to explore.
-Russell gives the Shreveport pack some blood, and punishes abstainer Martha by taking puppy Emma as a pressie for his new bestie (lover?)

The TIFF glam ante rises with legendary photographer Patrick Demarchelier in town to shoot celeb photos | Hollywood yohana

They have Patrick! As the start date for the Toronto International Film Festival approaches, more and more details about the festival continue to emerge, including the exciting fact that famed fashion photog Patrick Demarchelier will be on hand snapping festival talent.
Demarchelier’s pedigree and revered career will definitely up the celebrity presence, especially since he’s going to be situated right in the A-list-packed IT Lounge (NKPR’s swag room), snapping celeb-studded pictures alongside established Canadian photographers for a limited-edition magazine. Since we first caught a glimpse of TIFF’s incredible roster of films, we’ve been madly speculating about which celebs will grace our fine city. Now that we know Demarchelier will be on hand, we’re increasing our celeb sighting predictions by at least two fold.
Not only will Demarchelier be at the IT Lounge from September 6-9, but several other festival-related parties are poised to pack in the A-list crowd as well. To ring in their new e-commerce site, RW&Co. will be Coveteur’d by fashion home invaders The Coveteur, who are teaming up with SKYY Vodka to fête the site’s unveil at the end of this month. A Moulin Rouge meets Cirque du Soleil street party is also slated for the festival’s festivities, with SKYY Vodka once again hosting the party.
If you’re not going to be in Toronto already, we suggest you make plans to be here: this year’s TIFF is already shaping up to be the must-attend event of the fall and we still haven’t gotten all the details!

Osheaga Style Snaps: 45 photos of cut-off clad festivalgoers (and Florence Welch!) braving the heat in Montreal this weekend | Hollywood yohana

It’s no small feat to stay stylish and festival-ready when Mother Nature decides to cram lightning, torrential rain and paralyzing heat into the space of three short days, but as a whole, Osheaga’s festivalgoers managed to take the unpredictable weather this past weekend fashionably in stride.
Though typical festival garb showed up in full force (think flower crowns, ratty shorts and boho fringe), there was a decidedly more feminine and ‘50s-inspired sartorial lean. From a mint gingham halter dress to a bralette-and-circle-skirt combo, Osheaga’s female attendees somehow managed to strike a Betty-Draper-meets-Pocahontas golden mean, adding in unexpected elements to their femme pieces like an oversized pewter shark tooth or Montauk moccasins.

The guys also stepped up their style game: neon wayfarer-style sunnies, worn-down but stylish loafers and skinny-cut, patterned shorts were on hand aplenty. Many of the male festivalgoers seemed to have had the Olympics on the brain as well, because the Bay’s red and white “Canada” emblazoned Team Canada tanks were on many a stylish male attendee.
And of course, when the sky decided to dump a steady five hours worth of rain on festivalgoers Sunday afternoon, everyone reached for the ever-stylish and always practical plastic poncho. Next year, we’ll take style cues from the attendees who had the foresight to opt for clear ponchos: they allow for outfit viewing and still ward off the rain.

Kate Middleton spends her Olympic weekend cheering on Team GB while dressed like Team GB | Hollywood yohana

Kate in Team GB uniform

It’s not often that we can say we spent the weekend doing the same things as Kate Middleton, but thanks to the Olympics dominating almost all of our time, we’ll allow this one comparison to living like the duchess. While our participation was limited to the living room couch, Kate wasn’t just celebrating in the stands: on Monday she watched the men’s Laser sailing race from a yacht! Always one to dress perfectly for the occasion, Kate could have passed for a sailor in her Team GB windbreaker jacket, favourite white Team GB polo shirt and dark denim jeans by Zara. The rest of her weekend was spent in various Team GB items, including a navy polo shirt and jacket. What was new, however, were the shoes: Kate debuted a pair of red kicks this weekend—Adidas Supernova trainers which are also part of the official Team GB uniform. And one last thing to note: the chance of another Will and Kate Olympic PDA is gone. He’s returned to his post in Wales as an RAF search and rescue pilot. However, Harry will finish off the royal Olympic ambassador duties with Kate giving us hope for some adorable brother- and sister-in-law interactions in the days to come.

Lady Gaga shares her Vogue cover via social media and (as predicted) it’s pretty stunning | Hollywood yohana

September issues are always a big deal, and Vogue has quite the cover contender: Lady Gaga. The pop star excitedly took to Twitter last night to share the first peek at the cover, posting to her Little Monsters page: “SHH DONT TELL TWITTER/ SEPT ISSUE OF VOGUE MAGAZINE/ Sorry Anna but the underground kids deserve it. bisous! […].”

In one word, the cover itself is stunning. Gaga strikes a glamorous, discretely drag-inspired pose (she even tweeted: “Who else sees me channeling @RuPaul on the COVER of VOGUE […],”) in a dramatic, fuchsia mermaid-cut Marc Jacobs gown. True to Gaga form, the Mother Monster made sure to flash some skin between the glossy’s covers: in a story photo, she’s naked save for a shockingly pink Steven Jones hat.
And thanks to Gaga’s social media prowess, the Mert & Marcus-shot images have now made the rounds to Gaga’s 28-million-plus Twitter followers, along with countless other media outlets. We can only wonder: will she soon share a sneak preview sniff of her soon-to-debut perfume?

Kate Middleton loves her Smythe blazer almost as much as her Team GB polo shirts | Hollywood yohana

After a weekend of wearing navy (and a few days away from the public eye) Kate’s back on the scene in London in her classic Olympic uniform. The Duchess watched the women’s hockey semifinals last night while wearing her navy Smythe blazer, Stuart Weitzman wedges, skinny jeans and white Team GB polo shirt—making the outfit very similar to the one she wore during her meet and greet with the team back in March. Today Kate donned the same outfit, sans blazer, to watch synchronized swimming. While none of the British royals were in attendance, Monaco’s Prince Albert II was sitting behind Kate and the two chatted while watching. But where was Princess Charlene? Considering she competed on South Africa’s Olympic swimming team in 2000, we’d assume she would jump at the chance to watch any water sport—especially when she would get to do it with another young, recently-married royal. Alas, their friendship will have to (continue to) bloom on another day.
