Who Was Your Best Dressed at the Palm Springs Film Festival? | yohana

Charlize Theron, Glenn Close, Angeline Jolie, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Chastain, Best of Palm Springs
Palm Springs has always been the haute getaway destination for the queens and kings of Tinseltown, so it was no wonder a bevy of beauties made the two hour jaunt to the desert for the city's Film Festival Awards Gala. The competition was stiff, but a few celebs hit the style nail on the head with their ensembles.
Charlize Theron managed to stand out in her Lanvin LBD with modern details like a scandalous leg cut-out and padded shoulders. Pulled back hair, a gold tube clutch and simple black sandals added a sophisticated air to the look. Despite the fact that the carpet was dominated by an endless parade of young beauties, Glenn Close showed us she can keep up with the PYT's in her dark gray Bibhu Mohapatra gown. Thanks to Glenn, we know that age is just a number!

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie threw us a curveball by forsaking her usual Grecian gowns for an Elie Saab jumpsuit. Minimal jewelry and loose waves completed the elegant ensemble. Olivia Wilde got her mojo back when she paired her new shoulder-length locks with a full-length black Monique Lhuillier gown. The designer known for her bridal creations, took a turn for the edgier with lace cut-outs, a racer-back and a dramatic train. Jessica Chastain knows a thing or two about color combinations, so she worked her vibrant orange hair to her advantage in an emerald Prabal Gurung number. The patchwork dress was complimented by strappy black Jimmy Choo sandals and a swipe of red lipstick.

Michelle Williams Ditches Marilyn’s Blonde for Red Tresses | yohana

Michelle Williams
We have to give it to the girl—not only did Michelle Williams look just as stunning in her Prada dress and glimmering Forevermark jewelry on the Palm Springs Film Festival red carpet as the other ladies in attendance, but she also managed to mesmerize us with her new hair color. Even though the acclaimed actress dedicated her award to Marilyn in an emotional acceptance speech, it seems like the mother is ready to part ways with the iconic pinup's blonde roots for a pretty reddish tone.

Very Pregnant Jessica Simpson Rocks Sky-High Spiked Heels | yohana

Jessica Simpson
Über pregnant? No problem, because these boots heels were made for walking, honey.
Despite appearing ready to pop, Jessica Simpson took being a full-time fashionista to a whole new level when she showed up to the NBC Universal Press Tour All-Star Party in Pasadena, Calif., over the weekend in sky-high Christian Louboutin pumps.

Considering the blonde babe has already joked that she'll give birth in her beloved YSLs, it's not the height of the footwear that we're shocked by but what she's rocking on the toes. Yes, those really are killer spikes on the front of the Fashion Star mentor's heels. And by killer, we mean awesome, especially when paired with a sequined Dolce & Gabbana LBD.
Looks like someone's been influenced by her rocker little sis Ashlee Simpson. We just hope Jess sat down immediately after walking that red carpet. She's just so pregnant!

Rooney Mara Caught Red-Handed Wearing Color in Italy | yohana

Rooney Mara
You can color us surprised, because up until yesterday we were pretty sure Rooney Mara only wore black, white and shades thereof. Seriously, we thought the girl was allergic to color!
Since her makeover (or rather makeunder) for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, it's been all about subdued hues and modern cuts with edgy angles. That's why we were thrown into fashion shock when for the film's Italian premiere in Rome, she donned a red lace Valentino gown. We'll say it again. Red and lace. In the same dress. On Rooney Mara. It took us a second to take it in too.
The frock is girly and floaty, and so not what we expected. The high neck and elongated sleeves would read dowdy on anyone else, but the statuesque actress has the presence to pull it off. A tight bun let her signature blunt bangs take center stage, while a pink pout added a second feminine touch. The unadorned chick opted out of jewelry as per usual, and let her striking gaze do all the talking. At one point on the red carpet, the stoic lady even cracked a smile. Someone sure is full of surprises!

Mila Kunis Knocks Vanessa Hudgens Off Her Purple Reign | yohana

Vanessa Hudgens Mila Kunis
When Mila Kunis appeared at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 50th Anniversary Gala in Beverly Hills on Saturday in a purple Prabal Gurungdress , we couldn't help but swoon. The plunging lace up bodice paired with a knee-length skirt was the perfect combo of sweet and sassy, and the deep hues looked gorgeous against the actress' olive skin.

It didn't take long for us to realize that we dug that belted lace-and-chiffon look once before—and those long, wavy locks, too! Then it his us: boho queen Vanessa Hudgens rocked a similar Christian Dior mini to the Teen Choice Awards back in August 2009.
Despite their very different styles, the ethereal look works for both lovely ladies. While we love both dresses, we'll let you call us perfectionists, because we wish we could have pieces from both outfits to make our own super frock! Let's mix and match, shall we? We'll take V's sheer overlay bodice and tassel belt and combine them with Mila's royal purple skirt and black t-pumps. Mystery truly solved!

Which Supermodel Is Failing to Soar in a Pair of Flying Dumbo Pants? | yohana

DUI
Sometimes it takes a tall, skinny girl to pull of a special pair of pants. We're thinking high-waisted pants, wide-leg cuts, certain species of jegging. But some pantaloons even a supermodel can't conquer. And we have found that exact pair of pants. Behold these denims. They may be able to soften a crash landing by double as a parachute. They may serve as wonderful homes for the delicate young of an endangered species, say, a family of newly discovered Costa Rican fruit bats. But gurl, they don't work as pants. Seriously, honey, as you yourself might say: Auf wiedersehen.

Leopard for the Faint of Heart | yohana

Pippa Middleton, Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba
TREND: Black/white/gray leopard scarves
WHO'S WEARING IT: Pippa Middleton, Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba
HOW TO WEAR IT: We happen to belong to the school of thought that deems typical brown leopard print—as fabulous as it is—a neutral. You can wear it with almost anything (evenflorals and polka-dots ) and look ultra-stylish! But if the pattern is too ferocious for your taste, take inspiration from these stars and opt for a leopard scarf in a black/white/gray color palette. The smaller the spots, à la Kimmie and Jess, the less noticeable the actual leopard is. This subtle version of the accessory is a great way to work your way up to, say, brown leopard pumps or dress. (Because you really should have those in your wardrobe!) If you're a sophisticated fashionista with a flair for making statements with your streetwear, like Pippa is, go for a snow leopard neck wrap with larger spots. As is the case with brown leopard, you can incorporate this trend into practically any cazh outfit.

The National Board of Review Gala Draws in a Stylish Crowd | yohana

Chloe Moretz, Emma Stone, Jessica Chastain, Keira Knightley, Helen Mirren, Carey Mulligan
Last night's National Board of Review gala held in NYC brought out the hottest celebs out to play. And, like always, the numbers they wore didn't disappoint.
The oh-so fashionable Keira Knightley opted for a sexy meets sophisticated look when she donned a black, lace Nina Ricci frock. Helen Mirren followed in her footsteps by rocking a black, full-length Jacques Azagury gown that had a sheer bodice with floral appliqué. Jessica Chastain also went for a dark-toned dress, but her Zac Posen design had multicolored floral embellishments that gave off a retro vibe.

On the other hand, Emma Stone wore a white J. Mendel sheath, which she edged up with a bold red pout and metallic Christian Louboutin peep-toe pumps. Another fashionista that dressed to impress was Chloë Moretz, who sported a red Miu Miu trench-like dress. She topped off the look with an on-trend sparkly bow headband. And last but certainly not least, Carey Mulligan stood out from the crowd in a blush rose, fringe frock by Lanvin.

Celeb Manicurist Kandi Banks | yohana

Kandi, Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj, Nails
Nail art has been all the rage lately, but smiley faces and ombré hues? So last year. Intricate designs and 3-D talons are ringing in 2012. To achieve the fun look, celebs are turning to Long Beach, Calif.-based manicurist Kandi Banks (top left). We were floored by the nail artist's work on stars like Demi Lovato and Nicki Minaj (she's only been at it for a year!), so we had to get the scoop on her detailed designs—plus some at-home maintenance tips!
DON'T BE SQUARE: I like the pointed look best. It's easier to come up with the unthinkable when I'm dealing with that shape. Hello Kitty looks better on square nails, though.
TREND SPOTTING: Object and food nails are definitely in my trend forecast. Pink is always hot with my clients, but they don't really follow the season's colors. I do not like the new duck nails that Snooki can be seen wearing. There's too much going on, which I know sounds funny coming from someone who puts pizza slices on her nails!
CELEB DREAMS: Leopard print and ice cream cones are my signature designs. I actually had them on my nails when I did Nicki and Demi's nails, and it just so happened that they both wanted the same one from my hand. I definitely didn't do it on purpose! Out of all the celebs I've worked with, I'd sayDemi is the most daring. Nicki actually likes her nails simple, with pastel colors. The celebrity I'm praying to work with is Rihanna. She's the inspiration for a lot of my work, like pointed nails.
DARING DESIGNS: Lately I've been playing around with shapes. I created a champagne glass-shaped nail for New Year's, and I made a pizza on myself. I'm [trying to] make object shaped nails the new trend! I never get sick of doing multi-colored leopard designs. I've done a 3-D tooth with a gold filling and a cigarette, but the weirdest things I've been asked to do were a pair of 3-D breasts and a bacon-wrapped hot dog.

Which Alt-Musician-High-Fashion-Type-Person Is Dressed Like Prince’s Curtains? | yohana

DUI
When Scarlett O'Hara was going through her poverty phase, she made a gown out of her curtains. This alt-music fashion queen prefers three piece suits. Made from curtains stolen from Prince's house. We will say this: At least the little Persian harem slippers match.

Ask Style: How to Rock Clip-In Bangs? | yohana

Kim Kardashian
So you saw the pictures of Kim Kardashian on New Year's Eve, too? We assumed the reality star had joined the bang brigade to signal her "single and ready to mingle" status, but then poof! the very next day the blunt bangs had all but disappeared. Awkward growing-out stage need not apply! And the good news? You don't have to be a major celeb with a team of hairstylists to get your own fringe fabulous look too. Here's everything you ever needed to know about clip-in bangs courtesy of Beverly Hills hair stylist,Michael Sparks.
When choosing a hair piece of your own, Sparks recommends, "the three clip v-shape bangs," to get the most natural look. Jessica Simpson's hairstylist Ken Paves has his own line of clip-ins that meets these criteria, and for only $16.50 a pop! The collection has a wide-range of hair colors and longer sidepieces to blend seamlessly with your own mane. If you're looking for top notch quality, Sparks says, "The best thing to do is to go to hair shops, like extension and wig shops, and get hair that looks real when clipped in."
As for how to apply: "Part your hair in the middle, and then take triangle sections from the front of the forehead. Clip the bang at the root of each section. Now take the remaining hair and lay it over your parted section, blending it with the rest of your hair," coaches the tresses expert.
"To really make the clip-ins look great, sometimes you might need to add makeup. For example, you can use eyeliner where the bang meets the hair to blend, because sometimes the bangs have little white edges from the threading," shares Sparks.
When you style the rest of your mane, the hair guru recommends straight, sleek hair or a sleek ponytail for maximum impact. After the night's over, just pop the fake fringe out, and you'll be back to your bang-less self in a snap.

Selena Gomez Has the Blues... And Purples | yohana

Selena Gomez, Twitter
Well, well, well—look at what we have here. Did someone steal my look?
Selena Gomez just debuted amethyst, sapphire and lavender extensions courtesy of Nine Zero One salon owners Riawna Capri and Nikki Lee. The punky strands brighten up the "Who Says" singer's dark mane, but I can't say I expected the drastic change from the sweet-as-sugar gal. Turns out, that was the point. "It's unique and allows us to step outside the box to do something different and fun," Riawna told mystyle. "She was ecsatic about it and can't wait to show them off on her tour!"
I love Selena's new locks, but I am a bit biased since I swapped my blue dip-dye tips for a bright purple shade back in December. Mine, however, is permanent (ok, semi—Manic Panic and I are besties), so the only way to get rid of my emo ends are to chop them off. Since her technicolor blues are temporary, Selena will be able to go au naturel whenever she damn well feels like it. This makes me doubly jealous since I've redyed my purple three times and it's still faded to Katy Perry-like pink.
Fine, Selena, I'll admit it—you may have won this hair battle. Good thing you look adorable doing it!
