Skirts Over Dresses | Hollywood yohana

We have definitely seen skirts worn over pants. During the misguided age of fashion known as the 90s, the tacky look was inescapable. However, recent weeks have given birth to a new skirt hybrid: skirts worn over dresses. Has layering been taken to whole different level? Lets see if this can work.
Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova definitely showed us how it should not be worn. In her maroon-patterned, sheer sweater dress that she layered with a metallic miniskirt, she easily landed in our Fashion DUi gallery. The combo of the baggy sweater dress with the duct tape-looking miniskirt made for a distracting mish-mash.

Of course, rely on celeb tastemakers Blake Lively and Diane Kruger to wear this hard-to-pull-off microtrend the right way! Blake was the initial trail blazer in February when she donned a white lace Valentino dress that she paired with a baby blue skirt on top. Enough of her dress peeked out at the bottom for a nice mixture of colors and textures.

Diane, who never disappoints in styling, no matter how outlandish the trend, executed the look flawlessly in a floral shirt-dress by Derek Lam that was layered with a black and white striped skirt. The clash of prints and the pop of the canary sandals all came together in one cohesive and fashion-forward ensemble.
Our verdict? We think skirts over dresses can be very au courant when both layers are form-fitting and present a complementary texture or color combo.
