Of couse, with Whitney's famously offbeat sense of style, we could not pass up the opportunity to pick the blonde's brain about what inspires her, her approach to putting outfits together and advice for the shopping season.
FASHION PHILOSOPHY: My style is pretty eclectic. It depends on my mood and what environment I'm going to be in. I like to mix and match. I try to mix a lot of textures and prints. I pair old with new. I wear a lot of vintage. I always try to keep my style changing. It makes it fun!
TAKE RISKS: Do not be afraid of taking chances. Step out of the lines a little bit. If you just do everything one note, you're always going to be average—and no one wants to always be average. If you will it and you tell youself that you can pull off a unique outfit, then you willl pull it off.
SHOPPING MAVEN: I can tell right away if something has hanger appeal. I don't like to try on a lot of things. I know my body pretty well, so if it's something not majorly expensive, then usually I'll just buy it. I'm also not a label person. I shop based on what I like not who makes it. I've been doing a lot of online shopping lately because I've been traveling so much that I sit on the airplane and that's all you can do really do. HOT LIST: Sweaters. Lots of boxy, oversized wool sweaters. I just got this Alexander Wang fluorescent yellow sweater that was really fun to wear to a holiday party. I also love oxford shoes. I wear flats on a daily basis.
STYLE ICONS: I've always looked up to Princess Diana. I always thought that she was so classic, but that she also wasn't afraid to step out of her comfort zone. She started so many trends. I think Kate Middleton is playing it very safe. She's probably—and rightfully so—afraid of judgment and wants to be very proper. But I like that the Duchess is very classic and she always looks comfortable. These days, I really love Alexa Chung. I love how Keira Knightely dresses. I like how Alexa and Keira can mix up their looks between masculine and feminine.
QUIRKY COLLECTION: My grandmother started a miniature glass shoe collection for me. She bought every single one of them. She was a big antique shopper. She started all these collections for my sisters and I. My other sister has little glass teacups. But I also collectLafco candles. They come in pretty glass cases and smell good.
SIGNATURE TOP KNOT: I love it just because it's so easy to do. If you don't want to deal with your hair that day, you can just throw it up and still look effortless-cool. The best way to do it is to tie your hair in a ponytail first. Then, split the ponytail into two and wrap the pieces in different ways to make a cool knot and stick bobby pins in it.
HOLIDAY WOW FACTOR: I got these cool vintage gold clips that I love. Playing around with hair accessories, such as sparkly headbands and clips, is fun this time of the year. Don't be afraid to try a bold color lip.
