Cynthia Rowley Rocks the Runway With "Big, Strong" Designs | Hollywood yohana
One glimpse at the frizzy, 'fro-like curls of the models that strutted down the Cynthia Rowley fall 2012 runway, and you knew you were in for an extraordinary show. "What inspired the collection: Mechanics, cobblers and leathermen. Welding, oil slicks. Women artists making big, strong work," Rowley wrote. Big and strong was right!
We saw dizzying mixed prints, mindless layering and, for our fa-shoe-nistas, ankle boots with loosely laced backs. Like other designers that showed, Rowley wants you to fall for color this season. But even that wasn't traditional.
Stormy pops of color invaded solid-hued dresses, and colored leather in the form of boxy silhouettes were prevalent on the catwalk. Some of the models even shaded their eyes to up the badass factor of their unconventional outfits.
While Abigail Breslin and Smash star Megan Hitly saluted the collection by wearing vivid black-and-moss green dresses in the front row, Rebecca Romijn channeled the runway in the most wearable fashion.
The model-turned-actress showed up wearing a black sheath dress with leather paneling, which she paired with a multicolored tile clutch. The outfit takes inspiration from the more ladylike ensembles in solid navy, white or olive (yes, not all the stuff was cray) that were teamed with vibrantly wild Mohawk purses on the Rowley runway.
Other ways to incorporate elements of the collection into your everday wardrobe: rock socks with sandals (clearly, that's not going anywhere!), wearing a long-sleeve turtleneck underneath a patterned frock, sporting a skirt with a jagged hemline—just don't wear all of that at once!
