Neon, Cowboys and Jewel Tones, Oh My! | Hollywood yohana

Juan Carlos Obando Model
Aah, Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week—it's finally here! We're sure you've been keeping up with us, since there's already a ton of amazing fashion to look at—and, hello, it's only day one!
It Girl of the moment Viola Davis has been turning up in brights and halter gowns as of late, so it's no surprise that one of her current fave designers, Juan Carlos Obando, featured both heavily in his fall 2012 collection.

While he was the only one to feature neon quite so heavily (others featured just pops of bright as opposed to entire dresses in the hues), plenty of trends cropped up on the first day of fashion week. One of the biggest themes was retro throwbacks.
Paying homage to bold styles of the past, '60s colorblocking came face-to-face with flapper-esque dropped hemlines at the BCBGMAXAZRIA show, while jewel tones and lace inspired by the Golden Age of Shanghai heavily influenced Tadashi Shoji's fall 2012 collection. Even the '70s came out to play, with beige, burnt orange and navy blue ruling the runways.

Nicholas K Model
But two of our fave looks by far took our love for the Wild West West to whole new extremes. Nicholas K and Candela may not be household names, but they certainly made a scene today.
Nicholas was the first shown at Lincoln Center Thursday morning, and he made his urban cowboy message loud and clear with a parade of 10-gallon hats, fringe, leather and intensely dark brown makeup (marched out to Neil Young, natch). Candela, on the other hand, went for a whimsical take on Western wares, combining glitter with prairie dresses and boho floral prints.
