Stylist Hellin Kay Talks Dressing Tia for Season 2 Photo Shoot | Hollywood yohana
We were right there as Tia and Tamera shot the ad campaign for Season 2 of their hit reality show, which returns to Style on Monday, June 11, at 8/7c. It was then that we met the fab Hellin Kay, who styled the beautiful Tia and her adorable baby boy Cree. Read on to find out how her experience working with the mother and son team was like!
How did you decide what kinds of pieces to bring to the photo shoot? How would you describe Tia's style?
I chose looks that not only complemented Tia's body but also her personality. That meant bright, positive and stylish dresses, separates and heels. I loved the bright colors and the unexpected mixing and matching of the nude colored shirt with the red jeans. That was a favorite look of ours from another fitting that we did a while back, so we were thrilled to play with it again! I would call Tia's style feminine and chic with a modern vintage undertone.
In what ways did the various outfits embody Tia's spirit? What did Tia love about the different looks?
There is a fun flair to each look that I think embodies Tia's energy as a mom, an actress and a woman. The green Geren Ford dress really showed off her legs and has that girlie, fun energy that she loves and carries well. The red jeans with the nude-colored shirt was a bit more sophisticated, but definitely still in tune with her upbeat energy. I think she loved how the outfits made her feel and how great she looked in them with her killer post-baby body! The outfits were modern, stylish and forward in a manner which brought out her personal style in a new way.
Did Tamera's looks influence your choices for Tia?
Honestly, since I had absolutely no idea what Tamera would be wearing, I just focused on looks that I knew Tia would love and left the rest up to the universe. I knew, in the end, things would come together as they always do.
How did you go about choosing outfits for Cree?
I loved shopping for Cree! I wanted to find things that would pair up well with Tia's outfits, so paid close attention to colors and patterns that I knew would work with the looks I was pulling for his mom. A lot of the pastels and plaids that I got for him were neutral enough to work with a variety of other outfits, so I really just focused on those.

Cree snatched Tia's earring from her ear! Was that a concern of yours at all going into the photo shoot?
Not for a minute! Like with most things in life, you kind of just have to go with it. Having a baby definitely means having some surprises along the way. That is simply part of being a working mom and taking things as they come. Cree was an angel on set. You cannot blame a baby for wanting to play with his mom's shiny new earrings!
