It's All About the Drama at London Fashion Week | Hollywood yohana
Are you sad that New York Fashion Week is over? Don't worry, there's still reason to be merry! Fresh on its heels, London Fashion Week kicked off on February 17, and the runways across the pond showcased more creativity and quirkiness than we had anticipated (and this is coming from people who watched these gems go down the Manhattan runways).
From marquee designers like Kate Middleton fave Issa London and McQ Alexander McQueen to lesser known names such as Meadham Kirchoff and Louise Gray, the one thread that held nearly every Somerset House show together was pure drama.
While Issa featured head-to-toe prints, McQ's Sarah Burton showed off military-inspired pieces and '50s-esque dresses heavy on florals and tulle. For reasons beyond our explanation, alien-chic makeup and ensembles that would make Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj proud were on display at Fyodor Golan and Pam Hogg. What we could easily get behind, however, were the giant skirts we spotted at Temperley London, Stella McCartney and McQ. (We can at least reinterpret and layer those at home.)
But much like the New York shows, there were some trend notes to take away for fall inbetween the over-the-top presentations, including similar emphases on leather, peplum, and dark florals.
While we had fun letting our jaws drop at every crazy show, there were also celebs to gape at, too. Our fave LFW turns came from Michelle Williams and Kate Moss. While both lovely ladies wore black, their LBDs couldn't have been more different.
The My Week With Marilyn star turned leather and lace on its head at the post-Mulberry runway show dinner at The Savile Club, giving the normally overtly sexual combo a subtly flirty spin thanks to her pixie cut and girl-next-door charm. The supermodel, on the other hand, showed off her envious figure in an illusion cut-out dress by Stella McCartney at the designer's special presentation. While one was sweet and the other was racy, both looked lovely and leggy—and made each designer proud.
