Green Is Universal: Tips on How to Do a Little, to Do a Lot Sun., Nov. 13, 2011 2:00 PM PST by Kathryn Collings Eco Collage You know the most beautiful thing about being green? It doesn't take a lot to make a big difference. If everyone made a few small changes in their everyday life, it could create a major positive impact on the planet. Here are our favorite little things you can do to do a lot. • If we all used a reusable coffee mug instead of a disposable paper one, we could save over nine million trees each year. That's enough trees to circle the earth three times! While you're at it, why not pick up a darling printed mug for extra style points? • Team up with an office-mate who lives in your area to carpool to work. If everyone carpooled just once a week, we could save11.5 billion glallons of gas a year. That's good for the planet and good for your wallet! • Switch out your standard light bulbs for eco-conscious bulbs. If every home in the U.S. switched just one bulb, we could save enough power to light up NYC for an entire year! • Sign up for online banking. If everyone in the U.S. opted for paperless banking, 2.3 million tons of wood could be saved per year! Who really wants all that mail cluttering their house anyway? • The average American uses six napkins per day. If every person used just one less napkin per day, more than a billion pounds of napkins could be saved from landfills each year. I think we can all survive with five napkins per day, don't you think? Click for more stylish and simple ways to save the planet. It's been a whirlwind few months, to say the least. In an ironic twist of fate, I found time in my rock star-esque schedule to take a breather last weekend at the ultra-cool Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, of all places, which displays impressive memorabilia from some of music's biggest icons around every corner. It was raining, so I didn't get to check into Rehab (their famous pool party), but I did indulge in the Reliquary Spa's signature Ancient Cane Ritual massage. Test Drive, Mystyle Blog Inset graphics The soothing remedy utilizes raw sugar cane juice, crystals and a creamy oil to exfoliate and deeply moisturize skin as well as bamboo reeds to get rid of pesky knots. "It was just something unique to add variety to our spa treatments. It's really good for circulation and for breaking up scar tissue," massage therapist Channel Taylor said of the service, which has been done on a lot of athletes and musicians. "It's similar to the hot stone massage, except we use bamboo reeds." DRESS FOR SUCCESS SUPPORTER: Being a woman and feeling confident about yourself is very empowering, and it's important. As a woman, I know that when I put on something that makes me feel good, my confidence goes way up. You really can conquer the world, and that's what we're out there to try to do for these women. SUPER WOMEN: Over 70 percent [of Dress for Success] moms are single mothers, and they have two to three kids. I know how hard it is with one kid, so I can't imagine doing it with two or three and doing it alone. I have the help of my husband and mother—there's no way I could do it myself, so I give them a lot of credit. Those are the superwomen of the world. WHAT SHE'S STYLIN': I'm wearing a Janey Lopati Vintage dress and Rachel Roy shoes. GETTIN' READY: It takes hours. Long hours, and sometimes a half a glass of wine. Fri., Nov. 11, 2011 2:00 PM PST by Daisy Becerra Ashley Tisdale, Kourtney Kardashian, Heidi Klum Au Courant, Mystyle Blog Inset graphics TREND: Boho-inspired handbags WHO'S WEARING IT: Ashley Tisdale, Heidi Klum and Kourtney Kardashian (all Simone Camille) HOW TO WEAR IT: For a while now, the Bohemian style has been all the rage. But for those of you who haven't quite embraced it, we found the perfect solution for you, a handbag. Accessories are the best way to sport a trend, so why not do so with an essential you carry around everyday. If you are feeling bold, pick one that has bold orange and red tones, like the hot mamas. Otherwise, a subtle beige version à la Tisdale will do the trick. Plus, it's easier to match with. You can make your boho investment standout by pairing it with nude color. Simply steer clear of printed pieces, like Heidi's bottoms, and you'll be confused for Nicole Richie in no time. However, since the purses are on the casual side we suggest not taking them into the office. Shop the steal 'n' splurge below! WE SAY: Keep reading for reviews from Style staffers! Test Drive, Mystyle Blog Inset graphics Pros: Nailitini has really cute colors. I especially liked the purple "Voodoo" shade. I like to mix things up, and with the glitter polish accents, I was able to do just that. The Nailitini website also gives great tips on "how to cocktail" the colors. Cons: Too much of a matte finish for me. Use a top coat to keep the mixed polish in place and to give it shine. —Elizabeth M., Editorial Read More Print Share Link Add your comment Categories: tips , Beauty , shopping , style test drive , nails Photo by: tinibeauty.com mystyle Q&A: Jessica Romano Thu., Nov. 10, 2011 7:00 PM PST by Danielle Datu Glam Fairy, Jessica In the upcoming episode of Glam Fairy, 8/7c Sunday on Style, the spotlight turns on Jessica as she tries to impress Alexa by booking a very important gig with a pageant queen. I like the whole boho, hippie look. I wear cowboy boots and the hippie headband. At the same time, I have a smoky eye and a pink lip to make my look glamorous! STYLE ICON: I love Nicole Richie. I love her line. I wish I could afford it! I love her style. Whenever I see her, I want everything that she has on—from the eyeliner on her eyes and her hair to her maxidresses. I love it all! BUBBLY GAL: I'm addicted to bubble skirts! A nice pair of heels go great with bubble skirts. Your shirt has to be tight. It can't be baggy or else you look like a balloon. It's so easy to accessorize a bubble skirt because you really don't need to. You already feel like a princess in one! ONLINE SHOPAHOLIC: I'm an ASOS junkie. Versace is known for their luxurious look-at-me ensembles. And now, the Italian fashion house has teamed up with H&M for a special limited-edition collection. So to celebrate the affordable pieces, a bevy of celebs mingled and suited up in pieces from the line at last night's bash in NYC.
Like always, the color black played a dominant part on the red carpet. Jessica Alba rocked a sparkling black top and skirt with gold beading, which she teamed with a bold red pout. Like the hot mama, Jennifer Hudson opted for a LBD. However, the bustier bodice gave it a little va-va-voom touch.
Sporting the classic black-and-white combo was the ever-sexy Blake Lively. She paired her mini with a black blazer, tights and booties. The babe managed to add a touch of color through her emerald drop earrings and matching cocktail ring.
But this is Versace, after all—bold hues and prints made a big statement, too. While Chloë Moretz opted for a soft yellow frock, Selma Blair stood out in a hot pink confection. However, one of the most daring looks was courtesy of Julia Roberts' li'l niece. Emma Roberts opted for a matching head-to-toe printed number from the designer-of-the-hour. Strappy cobalt shoes and side-swept waves completed her look.
